The Chicago White Sox have bolstered their pitching rotation by signing left-handed starter Martín Pérez to a one-year contract. The deal, which is subject to a physical, comes as the team aims to improve after a challenging 2024 season where they set a major league record with 121 losses.
Pérez, who spent last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres, finished the year with a 5-6 record and a 4.53 ERA over 26 starts. The 33-year-old has a career record of 90-87 with a 4.44 ERA in 314 appearances, including 269 starts.
After recovering from a left groin strain that sidelined him for roughly a month, Pérez closed out his tenure with Pittsburgh strongly, allowing no runs in his final start before being traded to San Diego. He made a positive impact for the Padres, securing a 3-1 record and a 3.46 ERA in his last ten starts, though he did not participate in the postseason.
In addition to signing Pérez, the White Sox also finalized a $3.5 million, one-year deal with infielder Josh Rojas, who had a blend of power and speed with eight homers and ten steals in 143 games for Seattle last season. Meanwhile, infielder Jake Amaya was designated for assignment as part of the team's roster adjustments.
