Max Scherzer tied Hall of Famer Greg Maddux on the all-time strikeout list, making his debut for the Texas Rangers with 3,371 strikeouts.
He struck out Hunter Renfroe for his fourth strikeout in five shutout innings, trailing only Verlander on the list.
