Left-hander José Quijada and the Los Angeles Angels have reached an agreement on a one-year contract worth $1,075,000, effectively avoiding arbitration. The deal also includes a team option for $3.75 million for the 2026 season. Last season, Quijada, 29, posted a 2-2 record with a 3.26 ERA across 19 1/3 innings spread over 22 games, maintaining a remarkable .190 opponent batting average while striking out 24 and issuing 17 walks. Over his six-year major league career, he holds a 4-14 record with a 4.64 ERA.
Quijada initially requested a pay raise to $1.14 million from his previous salary of $840,000, while the Angels countered with an offer of $975,000. Meanwhile, 14 other players are still scheduled for arbitration hearings, including Angels infielder Luis Rengifo and outfielder Mickey Moniak, who have also sought significant salary increases.
