Tony Gonsolin, right-hander for the Los Angeles Dodgers, is set to make his first major league start in 20 months against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday after being activated from the injured list. Manager Dave Roberts disclosed that Gonsolin's last appearance was a tough outing against the same Marlins team, where he conceded 10 earned runs in just over three innings. Following that game, it was revealed he had been struggling with arm issues, leading to Tommy John surgery.
Gonsolin had a stellar 2022 season, finishing with a remarkable 16-1 record and a 2.14 ERA, earning him a spot as an All-Star. However, due to arm troubles, he faced regression in 2023 with an 8-5 record and a 4.98 ERA. Despite attempts for a comeback last year, he missed the postseason. Competing for a spot in the rotation this spring, he faced additional setbacks with back tightness but has shown promise in recent rehab outings.
