An arbitrator has upheld five-year suspensions for executives at Rimas Sports, a sports representation firm, due to improper inducements made to players. The decision, issued by Ruth M. Moscovitch, also reduced the ban for the firm's only certified baseball agent, William Arroyo, to three years.
The Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) found evidence of significant violations, including the use of non-certified personnel for player recruitment and providing gifts and loans to non-client players.
Arroyo, who represents New York Mets players Francisco Alvarez and Ronny Mauricio, faced scrutiny for not overseeing uncertified staff. Moscovitch noted the challenging position he was placed in, highlighting the complexities of regulatory compliance in sports representation.
