Free agent left-hander Scott Alexander agrees to a $2.25 million one-year contract with the Oakland Athletics at the start of spring training, filling a bullpen void. He can earn additional bonuses and would receive an assignment bonus if traded. The Athletics also place lefty Ken Waldichuk on the injured list.

Alexander, who grew up in Santa Rosa, had a 4.66 ERA and one save for San Francisco last season.
