The Philadelphia Phillies have added right-handed pitchers Mick Abel, Jean Cabrera, and Moisés Chace to their 40-man roster to protect them from the upcoming Rule 5 draft. This decision comes ahead of the December 11 draft at the Winter Meetings in Dallas, Texas, where teams can select unprotected players.
Abel, the Phillies' sixth-ranked prospect, struggled in Triple-A this season. Cabrera, ranked 13th, showed promise with a solid ERA in Double-A. Chace, acquired from the Baltimore Orioles, also performed well in the minors. Meanwhile, the team left two top-30 prospects unprotected and made additional roster moves involving John McMillon.
