The Seattle Mariners have acquired infielder Austin Shenton from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for cash. This move comes as the Mariners designated right-hander JT Chargois for assignment.
Shenton, 26, made his major league debut earlier this season, posting a batting average of .214 with one home run and three RBIs over 19 games. In Triple-A, he showcased his power with a .258 average, 20 homers, and 65 RBIs in 83 games.
Chargois, 33, had a solid performance last season with a 2.23 ERA in 36 games split between Seattle and Miami.
