Austin Shenton has returned to the Mariners after being acquired from the Rays for cash considerations. Originally drafted by Seattle in 2019, he was traded to Tampa Bay in 2021 and spent three years in their farm system before making his major league debut in 2024. In his brief major league stint, Shenton played 19 games, batting .214 with one home run and five doubles. He had a more productive season with the Durham Bulls, hitting .258 with 20 home runs and 65 RBIs. While he may not be the primary option at first base, he provides valuable depth and familiarity with the Mariners' minor league system, which could benefit top prospect Tyler Locklear.
