The Milwaukee Brewers have made a significant move by acquiring right-handed pitcher Grant Anderson from the Texas Rangers in exchange for minor league left-hander Mason Molina. This trade comes after the Rangers designated Anderson for assignment earlier this week.
Anderson, 27, had a challenging season with Texas, recording an 0-1 record, an 8.10 ERA, and one save across 23 relief appearances. He struggled with home runs, allowing 11 in just 26 2/3 innings, although he did manage to strike out 29 batters while walking 10. In contrast, his performance at Triple-A Round Rock was more promising, where he finished with a 3-0 record and a 2.93 ERA in 26 appearances.
Mason Molina, the 21-year-old pitcher heading to Texas, had a brief stint in the minors after being selected in the seventh round of the 2024 amateur draft. He showcased his potential with two starts for Class A Carolina, striking out six batters over five shutout innings, and also made two postseason appearances.
To accommodate Anderson on their 40-man roster, the Brewers designated left-handed pitcher Tyler Jay for assignment. Jay, who is 30 years old, had a modest season, going 0-0 with a 4.70 ERA in five combined appearances for the Brewers and New York Mets.
