The Toronto Blue Jays have designated catcher Nick Raposo for assignment to create space on their 40-man roster for relief pitcher Yimi García, who signed a two-year, $15 million contract.

Raposo joined the Blue Jays after being claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals, where he had a brief stint in the majors. He has played 219 minor league games, hitting .241 with 20 home runs. The 26-year-old now faces waivers and potential free agency.
