The Brooklyn Nets are strategically rebuilding their roster as the NBA trade deadline nears, focusing on accumulating valuable draft assets. Recently, the team has made significant trades, including sending Dennis Schroder to the Golden State Warriors and Dorian Finney-Smith to the Los Angeles Lakers. In exchange for Finney-Smith and Shake Milton, the Nets will receive D’Angelo Russell, Maxwell Lewis, and three second-round draft picks from the Lakers.
The second-round picks include the Lakers' own selections in 2027, 2030, and 2031, with the 2027 pick being contingent upon the outcome of the Lakers' first-round pick in the same year. If the Lakers' first-round pick is in the top four and is not conveyed, then the pick will go to Utah instead. Overall, the Nets have accumulated five second-round picks from their recent trades, bringing their total to an impressive 31 draft picks over the next seven years, which includes 15 first-round picks.
As the Nets continue their rebuilding efforts, it is anticipated that they will remain active in the trade market, potentially moving more players to enhance their draft capital. Cam Johnson is viewed as a likely candidate for a trade, but the team is open to offers for most of its roster as they aim for a stronger position in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft.
