Jaxson Hayes, the Los Angeles Lakers' reserve center, is set to make his return after a month-long absence due to a right ankle sprain and contusion. Initially listed as questionable for the game against the Sacramento Kings, Hayes has been cleared to play, much to the relief of the Lakers. The 7-foot big man has not seen action since the Lakers suffered a heavy defeat to the Phoenix Suns on November 26.
During his 11 appearances this season, Hayes has averaged 6.4 points with impressive shooting percentages of 72.2% from the field and 78.3% from the free-throw line, alongside 4.5 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in approximately 17.5 minutes per game. His absence has forced head coach JJ Redick to experiment with lineups, often utilizing forwards LeBron James and Rui Hachimura as backup centers.
With Hayes back, the Lakers' frontcourt depth will improve, especially as they have dealt with injuries to key players like Christian Wood and Jarred Vanderbilt. Hayes is expected to provide valuable minutes alongside Anthony Davis, which could help alleviate some pressure on the team's frontcourt as they face the Kings.
