The Memphis Grizzlies have made a significant comeback in the 2024-25 NBA season after a disappointing previous year, largely due to injuries that plagued their star player, Ja Morant. The team, which had recorded multiple 50-win seasons from 2021 to 2023, was only able to secure 27 wins last season, resulting in a lottery pick for the upcoming draft.
This season, however, the Grizzlies have returned to their winning ways, currently positioned second in the Western Conference, just behind the Oklahoma City Thunder. The resurgence can be attributed to both the return of their core players and the impact of their recent draft picks.
With the No. 9 pick in the draft, Memphis selected Zach Edey, a standout center from Purdue, who has made an immediate impact by averaging 11.3 points and leading the team in rebounds with eight per game. His performance has been complemented by Jaylen Wells, a forward from Washington State, who was picked at No. 39 and is contributing 11.5 points per game with impressive shooting percentages. Both rookies are currently in contention for Rookie of the Year honors.
As the Grizzlies prepare to face the Thunder, they aim to close the gap in the standings and solidify their position as a top contender in the Western Conference.
