Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary will be sidelined indefinitely following a knee-on-knee collision that occurred during a match against the Anaheim Ducks. Zary collided with Ducks defenceman Drew Helleson, resulting in Helleson receiving a major penalty and a game misconduct.
Despite the severity of the incident, Zary will not require surgery and will begin rehabilitation immediately. Currently, he is tied for fourth on the Flames with a total of 22 points, comprising 10 goals and 12 assists in 40 games this season. The 23-year-old was drafted in the first round by Calgary in 2020 and had a productive prior season with 14 goals and 20 assists over 63 games.
In response to Zary's injury, the Flames have promoted center Rory Kerins from the Calgary Wranglers of the American Hockey League to bolster their lineup.
