In a recent announcement by the NHL Department of Player Safety, Chicago Blackhawks left wing Pat Maroon has been fined $3,385.42 for elbowing Dallas Stars center Mavrik Bourque during a game on Sunday. This fine represents the maximum amount permissible under the league's collective bargaining agreement, and the funds will be directed to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
The incident in question took place with just over 15 minutes remaining in the third period of the Stars' decisive 5-1 victory over the Blackhawks. Maroon was assessed a minor penalty for roughing as a result of the hit.
Coinciding with this news, Dallas Stars head coach Pete DeBoer addressed the media, revealing that the team would also face a fine for a separate issue. The NHL has imposed a penalty on the Stars for violating the collective bargaining agreement by conducting a practice session on December 26, during the holiday break. This situation highlights ongoing scrutiny within the league regarding compliance with its regulations.
