Auston Matthews shone for Toronto with two goals, while Nylander also contributed an assist for a total of three points. Joseph Woll made 21 saves in goal, and Mitch Marner along with Jake McCabe each recorded two assists.
On the opposing side, New Jersey's Nico Hischier netted two power-play goals, supported by Jack Hughes, who scored one and assisted on two others. Despite the strong efforts from Hischier and Hughes, Jacob Markstrom faced 41 shots and saved 37.
