Mike Reilly will undergo a procedure to address a preexisting heart condition discovered during routine tests following a concussion he sustained on November 1. General manager Lou Lamoriello expressed that the condition, detected through echocardiograms as part of Reilly's post-concussion evaluation, could be seen as a blessing in disguise. Although Reilly has been cleared from the concussion, he will be out indefinitely while recovering from the heart procedure. Lamoriello anticipates that Reilly will eventually return to play and maintain a full quality of life, though it may take several months for him to do so. Reilly, 31, has been with the Islanders for about a year after being claimed off waivers from Florida and is in his 10th NHL season, having previously played for several teams including Minnesota, Montreal, Ottawa, and Boston.
