The New York Mets have made significant offseason moves by declining a contract option for reliever Phil Maton and extending $21.05 million qualifying offers to starters Sean Manaea, Luis Severino, and first baseman Pete Alonso.
Maton is now a free agent after the Mets opted for a buyout. The qualifying offers require a response by November 19, with Severino appearing most likely to accept after a solid season. Manaea, who has opted for free agency in the past, also had a productive year, while Maton struggled in the postseason.
Additionally, the Mets have claimed Kevin Herget and Luis De Los Santos off waivers, while several players were sent to Triple-A Syracuse.
