Alex Ovechkin is making strides in his recovery from a broken leg, as he skated alone before the Washington Capitals' practice. Dressed in a tracksuit and helmet, he participated in light workouts, though it remains uncertain if this was his first time back on the ice since his injury.
Coach Spencer Carbery is set to provide updates on Ovechkin's recovery progress. The 39-year-old captain is expected to return to play between late December and early January after being sidelined for four to six weeks.
Before his injury, Ovechkin had an impressive start to the season, scoring 15 goals in 18 games and is now just 27 goals shy of breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL record. The Capitals are currently leading the Eastern Conference, having won four consecutive games since Ovechkin's absence.
