Couple of things you seem ignorant of, Mr. Goldsmith: that so far, exactly zero evidence has come out of Trump violating the law--Cohen's testimony is, at this time, completely unsubstantiated, and to call the payments "campaign finance violations" does not rise to the level of laughable.

Moreover, the DoJ is not independent. It never has been, and was not intended to be. Are you truly ignorant of the fact that the president is, in fact, the head of the Executive Branch, of which the Department of Justice is part?

And, finally, Trump is entirely correct to call Mueller's investigation illegal. A special counsel can only investigate a specific crime, and one was not named as of Mueller's appointment. Even if evidence were to emerge from the Mueller probe--which, after this long, seems increasingly unlikely--it would be completely inadmissible in court. Fruit of the poisoned tree, and all that.
