The Washington Nationals have finalized a one-year contract with former All-Star pitcher Jorge López, valued at $3 million, along with potential performance bonuses totaling $500,000. The bonuses hinge on the number of games López pitches and finishes during the upcoming season.

López, a 31-year-old right-handed reliever from Puerto Rico, had a mixed but notable previous season, recording a 2-3 win-loss record with a 2.89 ERA across 52 appearances for the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs. His highlight includes 39 consecutive scoreless outings and a streak of 16 innings without allowing a run.

Despite a rocky moment involving an ejection and a thrown glove that led to his release from the Mets in May, López found a new opportunity with the Cubs shortly after. Over nine seasons in Major League Baseball, he earned a spot as an American League All-Star in 2022, showcasing his potential in the bullpen. Throughout his career, he has accumulated a 24-43 record, a 5.25 ERA, and 31 saves while striking out 468 batters in 282 games. Since fully transitioning to bullpen duties in 2022, his numbers improved significantly, boasting a 3.74 ERA and 30 saves in 183.0 innings pitched.
