The Chicago Cubs have released former closer Adbert Alzolay following his Tommy John surgery, which he underwent late last season. Alzolay, who is anticipated to miss most of the 2025 season, struggled with injuries and performance this year, finishing with a 4.67 ERA in 18 games.
Alongside Alzolay, minor league outfielder Brennen Davis was also designated for assignment. In a roster move, the Cubs promoted outfielder Owen Caissie and infielder Ben Cowles from their minor league affiliates.
