The Chicago White Sox have bolstered their pitching staff by signing left-handed pitcher Martin Perez to a one-year deal, pending a physical examination. Perez, who spent time with both Pittsburgh and San Diego last season, recorded a 5-6 record and a 4.53 ERA over 26 starts. In his career, he has made 314 major league appearances, with a 90-87 record and a 4.44 ERA.
Last season, Perez faced challenges, including a stint on the injured list due to a groin strain, but he closed the season strong with a 3-1 record and a 3.46 ERA in his final ten starts with the Padres. The White Sox, coming off a dismal 2024 season with a record of 41-121, are looking for a turnaround.
Additionally, infielder Josh Rojas has joined the team with a one-year, $3.5 million contract, while Jake Amaya has been designated for assignment. Rojas struggled last season with the Mariners, hitting .225 with eight home runs and 31 RBIs. The White Sox also made roster adjustments, assigning outfielder Corey Julks to Triple-A Charlotte and claiming infielder Braden Shewmake off waivers from the Kansas City Royals.
