The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded second baseman Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds, marking a significant move just three days after Los Angeles secured infielder Hyeseong Kim with a three-year, $12.5 million contract.
In return for Lux, the Dodgers will receive minor league outfielder Mike Sirota and the Reds' competitive balance draft pick, currently positioned at No. 37 overall. Lux, who had a $1.225 million salary last season, is arbitration eligible for the coming winter and the next, with the potential to enter free agency after the 2026 World Series.
The 27-year-old Lux was part of the Dodgers' World Series championship teams in 2020 and 2024. After missing the entire 2023 season due to a torn ACL, he was moved from shortstop to second base in 2024. The Dodgers are also planning to position Mookie Betts at shortstop this upcoming season, a shift from his previous role.
