The New York Mets are enhancing their bullpen by signing relief pitcher Oliver Ortega to a minor league deal, which includes an invitation to spring training.
Ortega, 28, has had a challenging career marred by injuries, having played only 10 games for the Minnesota Twins in 2023 due to a lumbar strain. He was previously with the Los Angeles Angels and was claimed by the Houston Astros in October 2023 but missed the entire 2024 season due to elbow surgeries.
This addition follows the Mets' strategy of acquiring low-risk, high-reward pitchers, as they have also signed Dylan Covey and Justin Hagenman, and claimed Kevin Herget.
