After being non-tendered by the Cubs in November, the 27-year-old will now vie for a spot on the Mets' bench during spring training, bringing versatility with experience at both second and third base.

In a corresponding roster move, the Mets designated infielder Luis De Los Santos for assignment to accommodate Madrigal. Madrigal, who was drafted fourth overall by the White Sox in 2018, has a career batting average of .274, with 77 RBIs, four home runs, and 17 stolen bases across 285 MLB games.
