A record nine Major League Baseball teams exceeded the luxury tax threshold for the 2024 season, resulting in a total of $311 million in penalties. The Los Angeles Dodgers led the pack with over $103 million owed, followed closely by the New York Mets at nearly $97 million.
The New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies also faced significant penalties, while the Chicago Cubs had the lowest tax at just over $570,000. Teams that exceed the threshold multiple times incur higher tax rates, with the Dodgers, Mets, Yankees, and Phillies facing the maximum rate of 110%.
