The Texas Rangers have continued their offseason overhaul of the bullpen by signing veteran right-hander Chris Martin to a one-year deal. The 38-year-old Arlington native brings valuable high-leverage experience, having previously played for the Rangers from 2018 to 2019. In a corresponding move, the team designated right-hander Matt Festa for assignment.
Martin, who pitched for the Boston Red Sox in the past two seasons, recorded a 3.45 ERA and two saves in 44 1/3 innings as a reliable eighth-inning setup man last year. His elite chase and walk percentages demonstrate his effectiveness on the mound, despite facing some injury challenges during the season, including anxiety and elbow inflammation.
