Frederik Andersen, the Carolina Hurricanes' goaltender, is set to undergo knee surgery and will be out for at least two months. The team had initially hoped for a shorter recovery time, but coach Rod Brind'Amour indicated a longer absence is now expected.
Andersen has not played since October 26 and has had a strong start to the season, but his injury is unrelated to a previous blood-clotting condition. Spencer Martin has been called up to support fellow goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov during Andersen's recovery.
