The Washington Capitals kicked off their 2024-25 season with a 5-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils at Capital One Arena.

John Carlson opened the scoring for the Capitals, but the Devils quickly took control with goals from Seamus Casey and Paul Cotter. Despite a strong effort from Dylan Strome and Tom Wilson, the Capitals couldn't overcome the Devils' lead, which included an empty net goal to seal the victory.
