Jonathan Loáisiga, a right-handed pitcher for the New York Yankees, has signed a one-year contract worth $5 million, which could extend to $10.5 million over two years. This contract includes a $500,000 signing bonus and a $4.5 million salary for the upcoming season. The Yankees have also secured a team option for $5 million for the 2026 season, which comes without a buyout clause. Additionally, Loáisiga has the potential to earn $500,000 in performance bonuses in 2026, contingent upon reaching certain innings milestones.
Loáisiga is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent on May 1 of this year. Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake expressed optimism about Loáisiga's return, suggesting he could be back in action by late April or May. Blake emphasized the importance of ensuring Loáisiga is fully prepared before re-entering competitive play. The 30-year-old pitcher faced challenges in the previous season, being limited to just 17 games due to right elbow inflammation and subsequent surgery.
In his career spanning seven seasons, Loáisiga has a record of 19 wins and 11 losses, with a 3.44 ERA across 11 starts and 152 relief appearances. He has registered 207 strikeouts and 72 walks over 219.2 innings pitched, showcasing an impressive average fastball speed of 97.8 mph in 2023.
