Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry delivered concerning news during his end-of-season press conference, revealing that quarterback Deshaun Watson has encountered a setback in his recovery from a torn Achilles. This unexpected development raises doubts about Watson's availability for the upcoming season.
Berry stated, "I did want to give an update on Deshaun. So yesterday as we went through our normal player medical process, we did learn that he did have a setback in his Achilles recovery." He emphasized that the recovery timeline has now been extended, leaving the team's future quarterback situation uncertain.
As the Browns look ahead, it appears that their quarterback room will undergo significant changes. With Watson's uncertain future, Bailey Zappe and Jameis Winston, who both had notable performances this past season, are set to hit free agency. The only quarterback currently under contract is Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who struggled in his appearances this year.
Berry hinted that even if Watson regains his health, his performance this season has not met expectations, making it plausible for the franchise to explore options such as acquiring experienced quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers or Kirk Cousins. Additionally, with a strong draft position secured, the possibility of selecting a new quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft is also on the table.
