Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski will reclaim playcalling duties for the upcoming season after stepping back midway through the 2024 season. Stefanski made the announcement during the introduction of the new offensive coordinator, Tommy Rees. The Browns struggled offensively, ranking 28th in total offense and 32nd in scoring, particularly after quarterback Deshaun Watson sustained a season-ending Achilles injury. As part of a restructuring effort, Rees is expected to help revamp an offense designed to elevate Watson's performance, which had faltered dramatically.
Watson, who has faced injuries in consecutive seasons, underwent another surgery and is projected to miss a significant portion of the 2025 season. The Browns are left with substantial financial commitments to Watson, including $46 million owed in the next two seasons and a staggering cap hit of $72.9 million for 2025. The organization is anticipated to explore multiple quarterback options through free agency and the draft.
