San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel has revealed the emotional toll of losing two Super Bowls to the Kansas City Chiefs, admitting that it has led him to experience depression. In a candid discussion on The St. Brown Podcast, Samuel described the aftermath of the defeats, highlighting the isolation and despair that follows such significant losses. He reflected on the grueling journey to reach the Super Bowl, only to fall short, stating, 'Losing the Super Bowl is one of the worst feelings ever.'
Samuel's first Super Bowl loss came in 2020 during Super Bowl LIV, where the 49ers were defeated 31-20 after leading for much of the game. The Chiefs scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to claim victory. The two teams faced each other again in Super Bowl LVIII in 2024, where the 49ers again led before the Chiefs rallied to tie the game and eventually win in overtime. Despite coming close to winning his first Lombardi Trophy, Samuel's 2024 season has not gone as planned, with the 49ers struggling and set to miss the playoffs due to injuries affecting key players like Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk.
