The Miami Dolphins have made significant coaching changes by firing special teams coordinator Danny Crossman and wide receivers coach Wes Welker. This decision comes after a disappointing season, particularly for the special teams unit, which has struggled over the past three years, finishing near the bottom of the league and facing numerous penalties in 2024.
Crossman, who has over three decades of coaching experience, had been with the Dolphins since 2019, following various roles in the NFL. Coach Mike McDaniel expressed gratitude for Crossman's contributions while also acknowledging that improvements were necessary.
Welker, a former NFL wide receiver, joined the Dolphins in 2022 and initially helped elevate the team's passing offense. However, the Dolphins' passing attack regressed in 2024, with standout receiver Tyreek Hill experiencing his lowest yardage total since an injury-affected season in 2019. McDaniel stated that the decision to make these changes was not taken lightly but was essential for the team's future success.
