Skylar Thompson has signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers just one day after his contract with the Miami Dolphins expired. The former seventh-round pick from the Dolphins will join the Steelers on a future contract, providing an opportunity in a team facing uncertainty at the quarterback position.
Following the Steelers' loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC playoffs, both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, who played as quarterbacks in 2024, are set to become unrestricted free agents. Although Wilson is expected to be re-signed, Thompson's arrival positions him to compete for the backup role.
During his tenure with Miami, Thompson appeared in 11 games with four starts, including a wild-card playoff game against the Buffalo Bills. His time on the field included struggles, completing only 58.7 percent of his passes, resulting in a passer rating of 66.1. His lone touchdown pass was to tight end Mike Gesicki, reflecting limited offensive production during his stint.
