Sammis Reyes is the first Chilean-born player in the NFL, currently a tight end on the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad. His journey began at 14 when he moved to the U.S. for a basketball scholarship, facing significant challenges including language barriers and financial struggles. Despite initially pursuing basketball, he eventually embraced football after recognizing the opportunities it could provide. Reyes credits the NFL’s International Player Pathway program for changing his life and aims to inspire future generations of Latin American athletes. He feels a deep sense of responsibility representing Chile and hopes to help grow the sport in Latin America, aspiring to see a national football team emerge from his home country.
