49ers running back Elijah Mitchell has been placed on season-ending injured reserve, limiting his chance to play unless an injury settlement is reached. Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason are expected to take on more responsibilities in the backfield.

The Chiefs have added RB/FB Carson Steele to their initial roster, while Kendre Miller of the Saints is also starting the season on IR. Kadarius Toney is set to be waived by the Chiefs after struggles in 2023.
