The New York Yankees are gearing up for the 2025 season with a promising outfield lineup that includes captain Aaron Judge, newcomer Cody Bellinger, and rising star Jasson Dominguez. However, the franchise is also exploring options to enhance their roster through offseason reclamation projects.
Recently, the Yankees signed former Chicago Cubs prospect Brennen Davis to a minor-league contract, although it remains uncertain if he will receive an invitation to participate in major league spring training. The team has not officially confirmed the deal yet.
Davis, now 25, is considered a low-risk, high-reward addition. He was once a highly regarded prospect, ranking in the top 100 by MLB Pipeline for four consecutive years from 2020 to 2023, and even held the top spot on the Cubs' prospect list prior to the 2022 season. However, his trajectory has been hindered by injuries and performance issues, leading to a significant decline in his stock.
Last season, Davis managed to play only 55 games, posting a disappointing slash line of .214/.359/.469 with 11 home runs and 28 RBIs in 147 plate appearances at the Triple-A level. He also spent some time in High-A ball for rehab assignments. The Yankees are optimistic that they can help Davis rediscover his power and improve his plate discipline, though his history of 347 games in the minors raises questions about his ability to contribute at the major league level.
While the Yankees work on Davis's development, they will rely on their established outfield starters and bench players such as Oswaldo Cabrera and long-time prospect Everson Pereira to fill in the gaps.
