Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton has been implicated in a disturbing domestic incident involving his ex-girlfriend, which reportedly occurred on December 30. Allegations detail that Burton choked the woman and broke into her home after a night of drinking.
The 19-year-old victim stated that Burton threatened self-harm with a knife and vandalized her phone before leaving the scene. Although she indicated that this was not an isolated occurrence, she chose not to pursue legal charges against him.
Burton, who was a third-round draft pick from Alabama, did not participate in the Bengals' final regular-season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a coach's decision. Coach Zac Taylor has confirmed the team is assessing the situation.
