The Detroit Lions are facing a significant blow to their defense as linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez has suffered a torn ACL, sidelining him for the rest of the season. This injury marks the fourth major setback for the linebacker position, following injuries to Alex Anzalone, Derrick Barnes, and Jalen Reeves-Maybin.
With Rodriguez out, opportunities will open up for Trevor Nowaske, Ben Niemann, David Long Jr., and Ezekiel Turner. Rodriguez had been performing well, stepping up in the absence of his teammates, and had recorded seven solo tackles against the Indianapolis Colts.
Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn emphasized the depth of the linebacker group, stating that each player has earned their chance to contribute. The Lions will continue to adapt their strategies as they prepare to face the Green Bay Packers on December 5.
