Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon was one of several players absent from practice on Wednesday, following an ankle injury sustained during the game against the Bears. Tight end Brevin Jordan was also missing after being placed on injured reserve.
The team responded by adding veteran tight end Irv Smith Jr. to the practice squad and signing cornerback D'Angelo Ross to the 53-man roster. The Texans are uncertain about the severity of Jordan's injury but hope he can return later in the season.
Mixon's not being placed on injured reserve offers hope that his injury isn't long-term. If he cannot play, Cam Akers would step up as the lead running back. Additionally, second-string running back Dameon Pierce and several offensive line players were also absent from practice.
