The Indianapolis Colts have made a historic announcement as they will host the first NFL regular-season game in Berlin, Germany next season. This game is part of the NFL's International Series, which will also feature three matches in London with the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, and Jacksonville Jaguars as host teams.
Berlin has a history with the NFL, having hosted preseason games from 1990 to 1994 at the Olympiastadion, where next season’s game will also take place. Although it will be the first regular season game in the city, Germany has embraced its association with the league, beginning with a Munich game in 2022.
The Colts recently played in Frankfurt against the New England Patriots, winning 10-6 thanks to Jonathan Taylor's rushing touchdown, marking their second regular-season game abroad. The upcoming opponent for the Berlin game will be revealed in the offseason, alongside the matchups for the other teams in London.
Despite their international endeavors, the Colts have struggled to reach the playoffs, last appearing in 2020. They have hovered around .500 in recent seasons, and their quarterback situation remains uncertain, especially with Anthony Richardson not yet proving to be the franchise quarterback since being drafted fourth overall in 2023. Nonetheless, he is expected to start in Berlin next season.
