New Orleans Saints rookie defensive tackle Khristian Boyd has received a $4,600 fine for a hit on Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith during a recent game. Although first-time offenders typically face fines around $16,883 for hitting a defenseless player, Boyd's fine was adjusted based on his salary cap hit.
The incident occurred after Smith made a catch, leading to a helmet-removing hit from Boyd that resulted in Smith entering concussion protocol. Boyd expressed regret on social media, emphasizing that he did not intend to cause injury.
Teammate Cameron Jordan defended Boyd, stating that he was simply playing until the whistle blew and believed there was no malicious intent behind the tackle.
