The Kansas City Chiefs have placed Joe Thuney on injured reserve and activated Jerick McKinnon for the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers. McKinnon, who had surgery earlier this year, remains a longshot to play but has put himself in position to be active. Thuney's injury will be replaced by Nick Allegretti.
McKinnon is a valuable player in the passing game, with 25 catches and four touchdowns this season. The Chiefs have also designated Mike Pennel as their practice squad elevation for the Super Bowl, while the 49ers have elevated Alex Barrett and T.Y. McGill from their practice squad.
