The Washington Commanders have begun their offseason after a strong playoff run, culminating in a loss against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. As they look to build around franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels, the team has signed nine players to futures contracts, including rookie quarterback Sam Hartman. Hartman, who spent the previous season on the practice squad, brings a wealth of college experience, having broken numerous records during his time at Wake Forest and Notre Dame.

Hartman is currently one of just two quarterbacks under contract for the upcoming season, alongside Daniels, as the team prepares for potential changes with free agents Marcus Mariota and Jeff Driskel. His accomplishments in college, including a staggering 134 touchdown passes, establish him as a promising addition to the Commanders’ roster.

On Senior Day, Notre Dame celebrated not only its current players but also welcomed back former quarterback Sam Hartman, who played for the Fighting Irish during the 2023 season.

Currently with the Washington Commanders in the NFL, Hartman previously amassed 15,656 career passing yards, ranking him sixth in FBS history, combining his time at Wake Forest and Notre Dame.

Jayden Daniels, the Commanders' quarterback and frontrunner for Offensive Rookie of the Year, is uncertain for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears due to a rib injury. He participated in limited practice but will undergo a pre-game workout to determine his availability.

If Daniels cannot play, Marcus Mariota will start, with Jeff Driskel as the backup. The Commanders opted not to elevate Sam Hartman from the practice squad, indicating confidence in Daniels' potential to play.

Should Mariota start, he would be the 44th different quarterback this season, highlighting the trend of increased starter changes in the league.
